Steven “Max” Mitchell, born in Harrisburg and raised in Duncannon, left Pennsylvania for college where he would study music and piano performance. He found his niche in accompanying for opera and musical theater, but especially in ballet. New York City ballet classes were familiar with his individual style of accompaniment but in 2020 he left the city during Covid
Since then he has moved back to Harrisburg and is planting artistic seeds from the riverside “Flats” to the “Heights” of Allison Hill. Children on each side of town, and each side of the river, deserve to have music in their lives. And through the initiative programming of Harrisburg City Performing Arts Group we will see children trained, faculty as performers retained, and audiences entertained.
Mission Statement
Harrisburg City Performing Arts Group believes that communities can be strengthened through the performing arts of music, dance and theater. Hbg City Performing Arts Group supports and promotes the professional performing arts groups that currently exist in the city. It invests in the well-being of children of the capital city from the “Flats” to the “Heights”. It aims to create new performance venues and opportunities throughout the City, offering meaningful employment for professional artists who in turn educate the children, who in turn become supportive audiences.
